Spring Fishing on the Owens River

When the weather finally turns in the Eastern Sierra, the Owens River is one of the first places I want to be. Spring fishing here is special — the water's waking up, the fish are active, and the valley is green for about five minutes before the high desert takes over again.
The Owens isn't as famous as some of the alpine lakes, and honestly, I'm fine with that. Fewer crowds, more quiet, and fish that'll absolutely make your morning if you read the water right.
A few things I've learned: go early, watch the runoff levels, and don't overthink your fly. A lot of good days on the Owens have come down to being in the right spot at the right time with something simple tied on.
Spring in the Owens Valley is a reminder of why I love living here. If you're a local, you already know. If you're visiting, take a morning and go. Just leave the river a little better than you found it.
